Sustainment of Protective Systems

March 26, 2021

One of the main tasks of nuclear security is to ensure the sustainment of protective systems. The forehanded development and implementation of a set of organizational, economic, engineering and technical measures, as well as staff development/personnel training, are the main conditions for ensuring the sustainability of the protective systems functioning of any facility in the nuclear industry.

The training course “Management Practices for Sustainment of Protective Systems” was held on March 15-19, 2021 at the Nuclear Safety Training Center, Institute of Nuclear Physics. The training was organized within the framework of the nuclear security collaboration between the Threat Reduction Agency of the US Department of Defense and the Government of Kazakhstan (Global Nuclear Security Program).

The purpose of the course was to familiarize with the key elements of the program to ensure the stability of the protective systems functioning, to train the practical skills in developing a concept for the protective systems improvement.

The course was intended for supervisors and managers of the state authorities and atomic energy enterprises. During the training course, the US and Kazakhstan instructors conducted the theoretical and practical exercises. US instructors participated online using ZOOM information platform.

As a result of the training, 14 Kazakhstan specialists were presented certificates of successful completion of the course.
